The domestic bicycle industry, which has been passing through a rough patch due to sluggish demand, is expecting its highest order so far to supply 40 lakh bicycles this fiscal to a number of States under different state sponsored schemes.
“The (bicycle) industry is expecting to supply about 40 lakh cycles to various States under their schemes in this fiscal which will be highest ever supply by the industry,” the Avon Cycles Managing Director, Mr Onkar Singh Pahwa, told PTI.
The industry annually receives orders to supply 15 lakh bicycles a year to various States. Karnataka and Jharkhand governments have already placed orders for supplying 13 lakh units and orders for 27 lakh more are expected. Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh among others annually place orders for bicycles under various schemes.
