The CBI has sent notices to several mine owners in the Bellary belt seeking financial details of their operations, it is learnt.
Mr Tapal Ganesh, whose family owns a mining company, TMR, told Business Line that the CBI had sent a notice to them seeking several financial details about their company. These include, export details from 1998 till date, mining lease plans and permits, monthly and annual returns, articles of association, details of the directors and the balance sheet from 1998 onwards.
Sources in the mining industry said that similar notices have been sent to about 65 mining companies in Bellary, Hospet and Sandur, all in Karnataka. Sources said that the notices might have been sent to the mine owners in connection with the investigations regarding certain mine owners in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
“This letter may be treated as notice under Section 91 of the Cr. P.C,” the CBI said in a letter to TMR. All these mining companies have been asked to reply to the notice by February 18.
