The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today felicitated energy efficient companies identified after studying and assessing the performance of 41 short-listed companies across different business categories.

The assessment covered a good mix of various sectors including automobile, cement, chemical, engineering, fertiliser etc. It is estimated that they achieved recurring savings of Rs 805 crore in the last three years.

Dr Ajay Mathur, Director-General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, presented 21 companies with the “Excellent Energy Efficient Unit” and 20 other companies as “Energy Efficient Units” at the 12th National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2011 organised by CII here.

According to a statement, filled-in questionnaires were received from 204 energy-intensive industries and based on duly filled-in questionnaire by companies, a panel of judges short-listed 41 companies. These companies presented their projects over the last two days.

Earlier, questionnaires were invited from all CII member and non-member companies with an annual energy bill of more than Rs 2.5 crore a year or with a maximum energy demand of 500-750 kVA and above. Participation from building and service sector companies criteria was relaxed for the contenders to an annual energy bill of more than Rs 50 lakh a year or with a maximum energy demand of 250 kVA and above for this sector.

Other criteria included environmental projects and projects linking with carbon emission reduction, involvement of employees, team work in energy conservation, monitoring and reporting, implementation methodology, utilisation of renewable energy sources and environment projects.

Kirloskar Oil Engines, Ultratech Cement, Vedanta Aluminium, DCW, Infosys, Kirloskar Oil, Grundfos Pumps, Indus Towers, Saertex India, Yantra Harvest were among companies assessed and awarded under different categories.
