The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has offered to partner with the state government in the development of North Karnataka.

Addressing the second regional council meeting of the CII Southern Region, Mr G.V. Sanjay Reddy, Chairman, CII Southern Region, said “We would like to partner with the state government in the development of north Karnataka. In fact, it's a high priority for us to bridge North Karnataka with South Karnataka.”

“In CII, we believe that growth should not perpetuate inequality, imbalance to the people or regions. We need to develop a special development plan for the region and CII would be happy to partner the state government in all its efforts in this regard,” he added.

At present, there are some grey areas such as inadequate infrastructure, power shortages and availability of land which are concerns which do not help in facilitating capital investment in the state.

“We cannot let these factors affect the pace of our industrialisation anymore. Rapid industrialisation is a must in removing the supply side bottlenecks and for creating additional employment opportunities,” he said.

The CII has been closely working with successive governments in Karnataka on a host of issues pertaining to not only development of industry in the state.

Mr Reddy said “We have been working together in manufacturing competitiveness, agri-processing, economic affairs and taxation, aerospace, information technology, infrastructure development, energy, skill development, inclusion, governance.”

“Be it development of economic corridors, agro-investment or any economic agenda pertaining to Karnataka, we work in tandem not just the state government but also with the key decision makers at the centre. I am sure our partnership will only grow in the coming years,” he added.

Aerospace

Talking about aerospace, Mr Reddy said Karnataka is poised to grow into a global centre with access to a quality eco-system. The CII and state government have been working together in this area.

The Bangalore Aerospace Park has already come up at Devanahalli. The state government has formed a task force with the CII which drafted Karnataka Aerospace Policy and is expected to be announced in next couple of weeks.

The state is also keen on developing public-private sector partnerships (PPP) for the infrastructure development sector. The areas cover rail, roads, energy, airports, rapid mass transit and ports under public-private partnership model.

“We should not allow infrastructure issues to drive away our inherent advantages for Karnataka,” he said.
