The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, will be taking up with the Union Railway Minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee, the requirements of the State to be included in the forthcoming Railway Budget during his visit to Delhi.

The Chief Minister also will discuss the issues of Kazipet wagon workshop and the project involving transforming Tirupati into a world-class railway station with the Railway Ministry.

Railway officials here informed the Chief Minister that out of 21 trains announced in 2010-11 Budget, 16 have already been introduced and four — Tirupati- Secunderabad bi-weekly express, Secunderabad- Manuguru tri-weekly express, Tirupati-Nellore and Hyderabad-Kolhapur bi-weekly express—are to be introduced soon.

New trains

The State Government, in coordination with the Railways, has proposed 35 new trains for the Railway Budget 2011-12. Of this, 17 are mail and express trains, eight commuter trains and 10 MMTS.

Despite large commuter demand in the suburban and inter-city sectors, South Central Railway has not been getting adequate coaches. Officials pointed out that inter-city trains were needed between Rayalaseema and Telangana towns via Kurnool to Secunderabad and Nizamabad.

Meanwhile, new lines projects mentioned in the Budget 2010-11 but yet to be sanctioned include Nadikudi–Srikalahasti (309 km), Bhadrachalam–Kovvur (151 km) and Manuguru–Ramagundam (200 km).
