Mr Deepak Parekh, Chairman, HDFC, called on the Government to set up a national development council for infrastructure to be chaired by the Prime Minister and have the participation of all Chief Ministers.
“It should be an independent body housed in the PMO and headed by a distinguished and eminent professional. The aims should be simple and should be fully empowered to deliver on the following: create a pipeline of bankable projects, remove all obstacles in the implementation process of infrastructure projects which are declared to be of national importance, sort out any inter-ministerial policy and turf issues, sort out any difficulties in Centre-State roles and responsibilities,” he said, while speaking at a book launch function here.
Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, and Mr Parekh, released a book ‘Getting it Right - India's Unfolding Infrastructure Agenda' written by Mr Vinayak Chatterjee. Mr Chatterjee is Chairman, Feedback Ventures and Chairman, CII's National Council on Urbanisation and Future Cities.
