The Commerce Ministry has asked the Finance Ministry to consider a proposal from exporters seeking tax benefits for gifting aid material including blankets and medicines to Japan, official sources said.
Mr Ramu S. Deora, President, Federation of Indian Export Organisations, in the representation to the Prime Minister, Commerce and Finance Ministers, said exporters should be exempt from income-tax under Section 35AC of the I-T Act that provides such privileges to donors, and excise duties for giving aid to Japan.
