The Gujarat Government has requested the Centre to roll back hike in prices of coal by state-run miner Coal India Ltd.
The Gujarat Energy Minister, Mr Saurabh Patel, on Friday said that the State Government had written a letter to the central agencies, as well as Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, in this regard.
Mr Patel said, “The steep hike in the prices of coal is unbearable for the Gujarat State Electricity Company Ltd and private sector power companies.”
The hike is estimated to have put an additional yearly burden of Rs 260 crore on GSECL, and Rs 350 crore on Torrent Power Company.
