Dr Harsh K. Gupta, a noted seismologist, has been elected President of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) for the period 2011-15. Seventy countries are members of this scientific organisation which promotes inter-disciplinary studies in understanding the Earth system sciences.
A former Secretary, Department of Ocean Development, Dr Harsh Gupta is a Pannikkar Professor at the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad. He is also the President of the Geological Society of India.
