Heavy rains lashed the capital for the second consecutive day on Thursday causing commuters inconvenience as several roads were waterlogged, resulting in traffic snarls.

The showers started around 10 am and the heavy downpour resulted in waterlogging in many areas like Majnu ka Tilla, Laxmi Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, Patparganj, Priyadarsini Vihar, Kashmere Gate, IP College, ITO and Vikas Marg.

Mayapuri, Mori Gate, Rani Jhanshi Road, near Filmistan, and Old Yamuna Bridge were also affected by waterlogging, a senior police official said.

The waterlogged streets led to the slowing down of traffic in several areas of the capital. “Traffic problems were reported from ITO, Ashoka Road, Old Yamuna Bridge and several other areas,” the official said.

“The main market in Laxmi Nagar was waterlogged like anything. To reach Vikas Marg, it was like hell. The whole road was in knee-deep water,” said Sundar, a marketing executive headed to Connaught Place.

The heavy rains have once again exposed the tardy preparedness of the civic agencies in tackling the rains.

It was after a gap that rains revisited Delhi yesterday bringing relief to Delhiites, who were facing hot and humid conditions.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 26.9 degree Celsius, one degree above normal and up from yesterday’s 25.8 degrees. Yesterday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 32.7 degree Celsius.

The Weatherman has predicted a generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers in the city tomorrow. The temperature could oscillate between 26 and 31 degree Celsius.
