The progress of the Rs 12,000-crore Hyderabad Metro Rail Project will be monitored on a weekly basis by a special task force to be constituted by the Andhra Pradesh Government under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary.

At a review meeting on the project, the Chairman of L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd, Mr Y.M. Deosthalee, while appreciating the proactive approach of the State Government and HMR officials, informed the Chief Minister that achieving financial closure in six months for the world's largest metro rail project will be a record.

He said already about 70 reputed metro rail professionals, including many expatriates, are working on the project. Reiterating their commitment to complete the project on schedule, L&T requested the Government to expedite acquisition of private lands required for the project and road widening activities so as to avoid any possible hiccups.

The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, directed the State administration, HMR authorities and L&T officials to complete all the formalities with the banks and financial institutions by the due date in March and start ground works.

Traffic management

He laid special emphasis on carrying out effective traffic management so that any inconvenience to road users is minimised during the construction of the project. He directed the Commissioner of Police, Mr A.K. Khan, to identify alternative routes and other traffic improvement works required for immediate action.

Both the Managing Director of HMR, Mr N.V.S. Reddy, and Mr Deosthalee made detailed presentations on the project to the Chief Minister.
