The Income-Tax Department has so far made cash seizure of Rs 5.38 crore from various people in Tamil Nadu ever since the Assembly elections announcement was made on March 1. The assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are slated on April 13. At the behest of the Election Commission, the Directorate of Investigation of the Income-Tax Department is monitoring the election situation in Tamil Nadu and trying to ensure large scale cash based dealings are not undertaken for election related activities. The cash seizure of Rs 5.38 crore related to 15 actions of the Directorate of Investigation at various places of the State. Also, undisclosed income of Rs 9.60 crore was admitted to the taxmen, official sources said. The Directorate of Investigation of the income tax department had played an important role in monitoring the recently held assembly elections in Bihar.
