The Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode (IIMK) is organising a five-day management development programme on ‘Multivariate Data Analysis' from April 25 to 29.

The programme is designed to introduce researchers and business professionals to the fundamental statistical methods underlying the analysis, leading to the understanding of information in large numbers, according to IIMK spokesmen.

It is pointed out that the amount of information available to managers and researchers has exploded in recent years and will continue to do so in the future.

A lot of information had disappeared till recently, either because they were not collected or were discarded as there was no cost effective way of keeping them.

Of late, information are collected and stored in data warehouses and they are available to be ‘mined' for improved research projects and better decision making.

The information can be analysed and understood with simple analytical tools.

The approach of the IIMK workshop is ‘hands on' and the participants will be equipped with tools that can be immediately applied to improve their research or decision-making process.

The programme will be jointly conducted by Prof. Joseph F. Hair Jr., Director of Business Doctoral Programs, Coles College at Kennesaw State University; Prof. Arthur H. Money, Professor Emeritus at the University of Reading Business School, Henley-on-Thames, Oxford, England; and Prof. M.K. Nandakumar of IIMK.

Some of the learning outcomes expected from the programme are: determine which statistical methods best explain relationships between variables; decide when and how to apply a particular statistical method; understand what the numbers in the output mean and how to interpret them; and write a report using the results of the data analysis.
