The Indian Dietetic Association will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee Year in association with the National Institute of Nutrition here from November 29, 2012.

The scientific programme will include plenary lectures, oral presentations and workshop on nutritional epidemiology, diet survey and entrepreneurship in nutrition.

Dr B. Sesikeran, NIN Director, said the IDA would be taking up with the Ministry for Health for the setting up of a council to set standards and guidelines for the profession.

“This body could be made responsible for overseeing nutrition and dietetics education across the country and function on the lines of the Medical Council of India,” he told media persons here on Tuesday.

He pointed out that despite the economic progress, the nutritional health of Indian population continues to remain a major concern.

Even though nutrition and dietetics are taught as separate disciplines in many universities, each university devices its own curriculum.

IDA has over 10,000 life members, with a total of 18 chapters. It strives to promote interaction between persons following different branches.
