Indian travellers are unlikely to be affected by the ash cloud spewed by the Icelandic volcano Grimsvotn. Although, the ash cloud continues to hamper air travel in Northern England, Scotland and the Nordic region, flights to and from India to England, Europe and beyond have been unaffected.

Airlines connecting India to Europe and North America do not foresee any disruptions for stop over passengers or passengers going to Mainland Europe and London. The ash cloud is present in the Scottish airspace and over the British Isles with large parts of Europe remaining largely unaffected.

“Concentration of volcanic ash is already dropping and it is unlikely that there will be disruptions like last year. Most of the flight cancellations have only been on routes to and from Scotland and Northern England. Indian travellers are almost completely unaffected,” said an airline industry official.

Norwegian Airport operator, Avinor said that the concentration of volcanic ash was dropping so fast that it expects to resume normal air traffic from 8 p.m. local time on Tuesday.

Last year, nearly 100,000 flights were cancelled as volcanic ash from another Icelandic volcano wreaked havoc over large parts of Europe for over six days.

According to reports, British Civil Aviation authority expects more flight cancellations in the regional operations but none of the major airports are likely to be shut.
