The Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO) has started an ‘International Settlement Forum.'

The Forum, which was formed on Saturday, will function as an arbitration council.

Arbitrators

The arbitrators will be retired judges from Supreme Court and the various High Courts.

The Forum has begun its operations in Chennai, where the attorneys, Surana and Surana, have given the Forum a 4,000-sq. ft space in their office to operation out of.

The 5-year-old JITO is an organisation of the Jain community, formed with a view to develop the community.

The idea for forming such a community, as well as for the settlement forum, was given by Jain Godman Naypadmasagarji Maharajsaheb, it was said at the ongoing JITO Global Summit 2011, here.

Mr Motilal Oswal, Chairman of the stock broking firm of the same name, heads a committee formed to take forward a decision taken at last year's Summit to create four universities in India.

Mr N Tarachand Dugar, Secretary General, TN, AP and Pondy Zone of JITO, told Business Line today that the committee was working on the “documentation” for setting up the universities and that an announcement would be made in a couple of months.

Standardised curriculum

Mr Dugar, who is also the Chairman of the Chennai-based Dugar group of companies, said that the curricula of all schools run by Jains would also be standardised and upgraded.

The schools themselves will be modernised. Ninety-five per cent of the students are non-Jains, Mr Dugar noted.

Education loan

Another initiative of JITO is to stand guarantee for the education loans taken by students of the community.

This will make it easier for them to secure loans, especially when they go abroad for studies, Mr Dugar said.
