Land allotments to some IT special economic zones (SEZs), particularly during later Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy Government, have come in for severe criticism, with the opposition demanding cancellation of allotment of land.

The issue came up in the State Legislative Assembly during the morning session, resulting in noisy scenes forcing the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr N. Manohar, to adjourn the house repeatedly.

In particular, the 250 acre land allotted to associates of Mr Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, near the new international airport was targeted by the opposition members who alleged that this was nothing short of favouritism and misuse of power.

Members contended that a company close to Mr. Reddy was allotted 250 acres of site for IT SEZ in lieu of a 2,000 sq.yard land located in Bangalore. As per estimates, the value of the 250 acres of land is estimated to be about Rs.3,000 crore as per current market rates, it was contended.

The Chief Minister had also outlined the Government plans to constitute a committee to review various land allocations made to companies in the past few years and take an appropriate follow up action.

Members also wanted land allotted to other SEZs be thoroughly reviewed.
