Kolkata-based Medica Superspeciality Hospital plans to double its capacity to 1,000 beds in West Bengal this year.

Bulk of the capacities will be added at the existing hospitals with a total of 500 beds in Kolkata and Siliguri in North Bengal. Also on the cards is a new 300-bed hospital at Asansol in South Bengal. The company recently purchased two acres of land at Asansol.

“We expect to achieve 1000-bed capacity in West Bengal alone by the end of this year,” Dr Alok Roy, chairman, Medica Hospitals Pvt Ltd, told Business Line .

Other states

Apart from West Bengal, Medica will soon set up three hospitals through brown-field expansion at Ranchi in Jharkhand, at Banaras in Uttar Pradesh, and at Guwahati in Assam. A new hospital is also planned in Bihar capital Patna.

The company will invest Rs 300 crore for its expansion. Of the total, Rs 55 crore is raised from private equity.

The company is planning to set up a nursing institute and a training centre for paramedical staff in Kolkata. “The facility will meet our increasing demand for nurses,” Dr Roy added.
