The Federation of Tamil Nadu Yarn Merchants' Association has urged the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, to form a consultative committee comprising representatives from spinning mills, yarn traders and the weaving sector to tackle the problems of textile sector

At its general body meeting held here recently, the Association demanded a uniform value-added tax rate of 3 per cent for both cone and hank yarn.

The meeting, which passed a number of resolutions, requested the Union Textile Ministry to provide incentive only to finished handloom goods rather than to new materials and compile statistics about the functioning of the sector.

The Association welcomed the initiative of the Chief Minister to solve the long-pending problem of Tiruppur dyeing and processing units.
