Microsoft India has announced the launch of I-Spark, a unique programme aimed at fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation students across colleges in India, in Kerala.

The programme is a step towards bridging the gap between industry needs and student readiness and thus creating better employment opportunities, technology adoption and strengthening IT competencies amongst students, according to Mr Moorthy Uppaluri, General Manager, Developer Platform Evangelism Team, Microsoft India.

MOU SIGNED

The company has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Basellios Mathews II College of Engineering, Sasthamcotta, making it the first college in the State and third in the country to be a part of this programme.

Microsoft India has signed similar MoUs in the past with BVRIT College, Hyderabad and JECRC College, Jaipur, to spur innovation amongst the students of the respective States.

Mr Uppaluri said that it is the company's endeavour to empower students with opportunities that help them innovate, convert their ideas into products and foster entrepreneurship.

LATEST SOFTWARE

Through the I-Spark programme, the software behemoth contributes the latest software and developer tools to train and mentor students and also help develop an entrepreneurship curriculum for them.

“We are pleased to partner with Basellios Mathews II College in this attempt to instil in students the spirit of innovation,” Mr Uppaluri added.

I-Spark requires colleges /universities to build an ‘innovation platform' - which acts as a ‘ hub for collaboration' amongst colleges, universities, government, quasi-government bodies, industry bodies and partners.

While the programme aims to bridge the local needs, it is designed in a manner that accelerates technology advances and stimulates local software economies through skills and professional training with active industry collaboration.

ACCESS TO RESOURCES

It is focused on providing student developers, IT professionals, university students, faculty, entrepreneurs and governments the access to world-class resources.

The programme also supports innovation at the grass-root levels and encourages entrepreneurship amongst students through the medium of colleges.

“In today's highly competitive world, it is vital for students to be in sync with the latest technologies that are changing the way we function across the globe, according to Mr F. V. Albin, Director, Basellios Mathews II College.
