A minor earthquake measuring 2.6 on the Richter Scale was recorded early on Saturday morning at the Marathwada region of Maharashtra.
Preliminary epicentral data gathered by the Pune-based Amateur Seismic Centre (www.asc-india.org) traced the origin of the quake to latitude 18.1 North and Longitude 76.6 East at a shallow depth of 10 km.
Based on epicentral data, the ASC has tentatively ascertained that the location was four km southeast of Lamjan; seven km northeast of Killari; 20 km southeast of Ausa; 33 km south of Latur; 44 km northwest of Basavankalyan; 86 km northeast of Solapur; 139 km southwest of Nanded; 294 km east of Pune; 409 km east-southeast of Mumbai.
Tremors were felt at Gubal, Kavatha, Killari, Mangrul, Nadi Hattarga, Nandurga, Sirsal, Talni and Yelvat.
No damage or casualties occurred due to this earthquake but people did run outdoors at a few places, the ASC said.
This is the fifth minor quake reported from the Indian region after the ‘moderate' M5.7 quake that jolted the Indo-Nepal border on April 4.
Of these, two were traced to the Kachchh region of Gujarat, and one each to Tangdhar in Jammu and Kashmir and Pithoragarh in Uttarkhand.
