Households in urban and rural areas in Andhra Pradesh are likely to have piped cooking gas connection by the end of next year.

At a review meeting with the officials of the Andhra Pradesh Gas Distribution Corporation Ltd, (APGDCL) here on Sunday, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, directed officials concerned to speed up the work.

APGDCL, AP Gas Infrastructure Corporation (APGIC) and Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) are currently engaged in the pipeline laying work in urban and rural areas.

The Chief Minister had asked all the agencies involved to take up the work simultaneously.

The officials assured the Chief Minister that works were in full swing with the aim to make piped gas available in the State at the earliest.

The State capital is ahead of other regions. The piped gas distribution in Hyderabad is ready to kick start from the Nalsar Colony in Shamirpet soon.

The rest of the city will also be covered at the earliest, they said. The price of the piped cooking gas would be just one third of the price of LPG cylinders.

The State Government had created APGIC as a joint venture of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation and APGenco.

APGIC intends to participate in upstream (exploration and production), midstream (pipeline infrastructure) and also the downstream (trading) activity covering the full chain of natural gas business. APGIC is aiming to participate in the development of the city gas distribution networks. It had submitted the expression of interest to lay and maintain the city or local area gas distribution networks for the 12 districts of Medak, Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Khammam, West Godavari, East Godavari, Krishna, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Karimnagar and Warangal so far.

The Hyderabad district was already awarded to Bhagyanagar Gas Ltd along with Kakinada, Samalkot, Pithapuram and Peddapuram and Vijayawada.
