Polaris Industries Inc of the US, a leading manufacturer of off-road and all-terrain vehicles, plans to launch its first product in India next week.
The launch is slated for Wednesday in Delhi, according to reliable industry sources.
The Minneapolis-headquartered company has appointed dealers in some major States and expects to sell about 70 vehicles a year, all of which will be imported from the US.
Polaris, which reported revenues of $1.9 billion in 2010, designs and makes off-road vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, side-by-side vehicles, snowmobiles and Victory motorcycles. It is one of the largest manufacturers of off-road vehicles, according to the sources.
It is also believed that Polaris is in talks with the Eicher Group to assemble one of its vehicles at the latter's plant.
Polaris' vehicles are expected to be priced upwards of Rs 5 lakh and may find use in off-road applications such as mining, in forests, in deserts and on beaches.
