Power generation at Damodar Valley Corporation has increased following incessant rains in the past ten days.
“The record rainfall in the catchment areas of DVC helped increase in water level at the three dams —Telaiya, Maithon and Panchet, helping generation of power from all its plants,” the General Secretary of DVC’s Officer’s Forum, Mr Sanjay Kumar Singh, said here today.
The current generation of power from all its plants, both thermal power and hydel power, was over 2,000 MW per day against 1,300 MW to 1,500 MW per day. This helped to meet the power requirements of Bengal, Jharkhand, railways and the national grid, he said.
Stating that power generation was affected badly following severe drought in Jharkhand in the last two years, he said the position had improved following rainfall and increase in coal availability this year.
All the three reservoirs were flowing above normal, forcing the release of surplus water.
