Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, the biggest conclave in Canada of the Indian-origin people settled in North America and the Caribbean, will start here today with several Indian ministers and delegates attending the function, an official spokesperson said.
The Governor General of Canada, Mr David Johnston, will be the key speaker at the programme, the spokesperson said.
The Indian Minister for External Affairs, Mr Preneet Kaur, would be leading the Indian delegation to the convention, being held for the first time in Canada, he said.
Top Canadian politicians, civil servants and businessmen including, the Ontario Premier, Mr Dalton McGuinty, will address the two-day convention being attended by over 1,500 delegates from North America, the spokesperson said.
Besides, leading members of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Assocham) will also be participating in a round-table discussion on business opportunities in India.
The mini PBD theme is ‘Building Bridges: Positioning Strategy of the Indian Diaspora’. Indian Diaspora members in Canada, the US, Mexico and the Caribbean countries are expected to attend the PBD Canada 2011 convention in large numbers, he said.
