The rupee fell by 2 paise to Rs 45.18 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Friday, tracking weakness in other Asian currencies.

Month-end demand from importers for the American currency and a weak opening in the stock market also weighed on the Indian rupee.

Forex dealers said dollar gains against other Asian currencies and month-end demand for the American currency from importers also put pressure on the Indian rupee.

The rupee had ended 7 paise lower at Rs 45.16/17 against the US dollar in yesterday’s session.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex fell by 102.52 points to 19,880.36 in opening trade today.
