The Mayor of San Antonio, US, Julian Castro, who has been described by the media in the US to be the next Obama, was all praise for the “brain power” that India, especially Chennai, produces. In the 21st Century, brain power is the currency of success.
“And, you create that brain power right here in Chennai,” he told the audience at a seminar organised by the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Leading a 29-member delegation from San Antonio, which is famous for its basketball team, the San Antonio Spurs, Castro visited Caterpillar’s research and development centre at IIT Madras.
Chennai has a larger role in creating brain power, which is being used globally, he said. Both Chennai and San Antonio can be “sister cities” and help each other in both cultural and business relations, he said.
Castro invited Indian companies in areas such as information technology, bio science and healthcare to set up their operations in his city. The city can be a gateway for the Latin American market, he said. San Antonio in Texas State has a population of 1.3 million and is the seventh largest city in the US, he said.
