Sand prices in Tamil Nadu would fall considerably in a week’s time as the Government had taken efforts to open 85 new quarries across the State, the Public Works Department Minister, Mr K.V. Ramalingam, today said.
“The Chief Minister and the Government have taken all efforts to reduce the sand price and certainly within a week’s time the prices will fall considerably,” he told reporters here.
He also warned that stringent action would be taken against those creating artificial scarcity and price hike.
The AIADMK Government had decided to start 85 more sand quarries across the State and of these 40 had started functioning, he said.
“We already have 285 sand quarries and in Chennai the price has fallen 50 per cent during this week,” he added.
