The Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee today asserted that the spate of scams unearthed within the country in the recent years had not affected investment climate here.
The uncertainty in the external economic environment has also played a part (in affecting the investment climate here) in subdued investment climate as people with surplus money would like to have adequate returns for their investments, he said at the Economic Editors’ conference here on Wednesday.
“I don’t think so. Investment climate has come down all over the world. We are not living in isolation. This aspect should also be kept in view,” Mr Mukherjee said in response to a question on whether the recent scams have affected investment climate in India.
On capital infusion into banks, Mr Mukherjee said that adequate resources would be provided for recapitalisation of public sector banks. “Adequate capital will be injected in all PSBs to maintain 8 percent Tier-I capital,” he said.
