The Centre for Water Resource Development and Management (CWRDM), in association with the National Association of Geographers India (NAGI), will host an international seminar on ‘Sustainable Natural Resources Management under Changing Climate Scenario' from May 6.
According to Mr. K.V. Jayakumar, Executive Director of CWRDM, over 190 research papers by eminent scholars from across the world are expected to be presented at the three-day seminar, which will be attended by around 275 registered delegates.
geomorphology
The various sessions will discuss in detail topics such as natural hazards and environmental challenges; impact of deforestation on hydrological processes; impact of anthropogenic activities and climate changes on biodiversity; geomorphology and natural resources management; geo-informatics; impact of population explosion and urbanisation, environmental pollution and quality of life; geopolitical economy of development and globalisation; and tourism – impacts, implications and alternatives.
Climate change
The seminar will also highlight the problems caused by climate change in different nations and the ensuing transformations that are to manifest in various sectors of human life on earth.
It will also unveil new environmental perspectives and scientific approaches, including modern technologies.
Geo-informatics
Besides, a full session will be devoted for looking into the role of geo-informatics in assessing the impacts of various environmental hazards and disasters.
Mr. Jayakumar said that the suggestions of scientists during the seminar would be submitted to the Union Government to draw up an effective natural resources management strategy to meet the challenges posed by climate change.
The seminar will be inaugurated by the Maharashtra Governor, Mr. R. Sankaranarayanan, at the CWRDM campus here.
