The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence arrested six people at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Saturday when they were trying to smuggle in watches and expensive camera lenses from Singapore.
The passengers arrived from Singapore on Silk Air Flight, carrying nine checked-in baggages apart from hand baggage. Examination of their checked-in baggage revealed that they were carrying 4, 760 watches and camera lenses worth about Rs 1.76 crore. They also had Rs 3 lakh in cash.
The persons admitted to the offence, stating that they had brought the expensive items and did not have supporting documents. No customs duty was paid on the items, the DRI said in a statement.
