Sri Sri Ravi Shankar laid the foundation stone for the Art of Living (AOL) spiritual township comprising an ashram surrounded by around 124 houses for devotees, spread over 13.5 acres at Thottuva, near Kalady, the birth place of Adi Sankara.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the spiritual township was planned in line with the universal dictum of vasudevakudumbakam , the peaceful co-existence of people of all faiths to provide food, shelter, and knowledge.
Facilities for meditation and yoga would also be made available at the township. Lot of service facilities, including a de-addiction centre, an ayurvedic hospital, and a bridge across the River Periyar are planned to be set up at the township.
The proposed ashram is coming up on the banks of the river.
