The 2011 Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) Region finals is scheduled to take place at the PSG College of Technology here on Thursday. Mr Vikram Mohan, President of the Coimbatore Chapter of EO (Entrepreneurs' Organisation), and Mr Annush Ramasamy, GSEA Program Director for South Asia, said that this debut finals of the GSEA at Coimbatore was the first such event in the country, and the only competition which aims to help the winner participate at the global level.

As many as 30 undergraduate students from nine states (including three from Tamil Nadu) are expected to converge at the PSG Tech campus on Thursday to showcase the businesses created by them while still at school/university.

Three awards would be given. The winner would represent India as one of the 30 finalists at the GSEA global finals scheduled in New York city around mid-November.

“The winner's trip to New York would be fully sponsored, to enable the contestant to represent India at the GSEA World Finals,” said Mr Ramasamy.

“The report card of generating new business, earning revenues for not less than six months and enterprise governance in a turbulent economy, dealing with clients and customer issues — all while attending school/ university full time by these student entrepreneurs demonstrate their courage and intellect as they embark on this journey at the undergraduate level. We received over 200 applications but only 30 qualified to compete in the India region finals,” said Mr Ramasamy.

The eligibility is that the student's business should have been in operation for more than six months and generating revenues.
