Mr Dilip Shanghvi, Chairman and Managing Director, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, has won the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 award. He will now represent the country at the international award ceremony of Ernst and Young to be held in Monte Carlo, Monaco in June.

Mr Shangvi also won the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in Healthcare and Life Sciences category in 2005. For 2010, this award was picked up by Mr Shyam S Bhartia and Mr Hari S Bhartia from Jubilant Life Sciences Ltd.

The award is in its 12th year now and for the 2010 edition, 312 nominations were received. The jury was led by Mr M Damodaran, a former chief of SEBI.

The lifetime achievement award this year was conferred upon Mr Brijmohan Lall Munjal, Chairman and Whole Time Director, Hero Honda Motors. The award for Business Transformation was given to Mr Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto Ltd.

Mr Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director, InterGlobe Enterprises, the parent company of low cost airline IndiGo, won the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year in Services category. Mr Naveen Jindal, Executive Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd won the award in the Energy and Infrastructure category.

“The winners reflect three generations of entrepreneurs coming together. It includes the older business groups who have reinvented themselves, the next generation who have built scale at a rapid pace and the first generation of newcomers,” said Mr Rajiv Memani, Chief Executive Officer and Country Managing Partner, Ernst and Young India.
