Taxpayers have demanded enhancement of scope of the Income-Tax Ombudsman to redress assessees grievances in at least 15 areas.
“I find there are demands from taxpayers to increase the ambit of areas of jurisdiction offered to us under the current law,” the I-T Ombudsman (East), Mr Manoj Mishra, said here today on the sidelines of an interactive session with Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce.
One of the popular areas of grievance is on ‘Stay of Demand’ by I-T Department and currently it is out of ombudsman jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, there are some 300 pending cases before the regional ombudsman and most of it is related to refunds and non-credit of tax deducted at source.
