The Calcutta High Court on Monday granted bail to two more directors of AMRI Hospitals – Mr Ravi Todi and Mr Manish Goenka.

Both have been in police custody for nearly 114 days, ever since their arrest on December 9, 2011.

Mr Ravi Todi of Shrachi Group and Mr Manish Goenka, director, Emami Group, were arrested in connection with the fire that broke out in the hospital's premises in city in December last year.

Meanwhile, the Sessions Court on Monday also granted bail to AMRI, vice-president, administration, Ms Pritha Banerjee, who was arrested by the city police on January 23.

This incidentally is the ninth bail granted in the AMRI fire, which claimed the lives of over 90 people (mostly patients).

AMRI Hospitals is jointly promoted by Emami Group (66 per cent), and city-based real-estate group Shrachi (32 per cent). The State Government holds a 2 per cent stake in the hospital.

Of the nine directors and four employees arrested in connection with the fire, three promoter directors – Mr R S Agarwal was granted bail by the Calcutta High Court on February 17, while, Mr R.S. Goenka and Mr Prashant Goenka were granted bail on March 28.

Dr Mani Chhetri, the managing director of the hospital, who also holds the licence for the hospital, Dr Pranab Dasgupta and senior vice-president, Dr Satyabrata Upadhyay, were also granted bail by the Alipore Sessions Court recently.

Three directors Mr Aditya Agarwal, Ms Priti Sureka and Mr Rahul Todi have been reported absconding.

Among the arrested directors, Mr S.K. Todi, chairman, Shrachi Group, and Mr Dayanand Agarwal, executive director, AMRI, are yet to be granted bail. Mr Todi's bail application petition has been filed with the Calcutta High Court.

The Kolkata police on March 2 filed a charge sheet against 16 people in the AMRI incident. Offenders have been booked under various sections relating to the Indian Penal Code and West Bengal Fires Services Act.
