It was one of most anticipated events of the week. And hours after the event got over, the netizens were still discussing, or rather scanning, every word of the speech made at the event.

It shouldn’t be a surprise since the event was Rahul Gandhi’s maiden address to industry at the CII annual meet on Thursday.

Hours before Rahul could take the podium, the netizens decided to name the event under ‘#pappuCII’ that went viral late in the evening.

There were a few mischievous tweeters who linked the Congress Vice-President’s speech with the stock markets’ fall.

Bhanu Pratap Singh asked this on his tweet: “On a day when #pappuCII addressed the industry, the Sensex slid 300 points. What if he had addressed the nation?”

Rahul’s “beehive” and “I have lost it” drew a lot of comments.

For Sridhar Krishna, the only takeaway was “I have lost it” and for Brown Sahiba “the Rahul lexicon now includes ‘Boss’.”

Ramesh Srivats took a dig at the “beehive”, tweeting: “Rahul Gandhi is right. Of course India is a beehive. Hajaar (thousand) worker bees...”

Some anti-Congress and pro-BJP tweeters seemed to have enjoyed these comments. While ‘amit2you’ said BJP’s hope in the Karnataka Assembly elections will not be Modi but asking Rahul to address two such meetings in the southern State, there were others who said the speech would only have improved the chances of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi playing a major role at the centre.

Cricketer and BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu took a pot shot, tweeting “After listening to Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh said ‘My silence is better than this speech’.”

Tweeter Amit Malviya wasn’t impressed at all, saying “Rahul Gandhi’s speech hit some dud notes.”

And Sadhna Tiwari seemed clueless asking “Kahna kya chahte ho akhir?” (What do you want to say, in the end).

The quote of the day, for Tweeting Saurav, was: “If you expect someone like Manhoman Singhji to solve all problems, you are going to keep expecting it.”

Most of the tweeters were critical of Rahul’s debut interaction with industry. But netizen Lovneesh had a few kinds words to say: “… He was nervous.”
