A working group on air cargo/express service Industry under the Civil Aviation Economic Advisory Council has been set up in the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
The move follows the decision taken in the first meeting of the council held on December 13, 2010 and also keeps in mind the projected rapid growth in air freight.
The working group comprises representatives from the airline industry, airport infrastructure developers, cargo associations, airport operators, Customs and the Ministry.
The responsibilities of the working group entail preparation and presentation of the current status of the industry and assessment of its growth potential in India.
The working group will also study the existing system of air cargo/express delivery services handling in India and identify the areas that require further improvements to seize the opportunities in trade. Further, the group will establish priorities and recommend policy initiatives to address issues of significant importance to the air cargo industry in India.
The Working Group will be serviced by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and may co-opt any other experts/authorities to contribute to the working group as per requirement under intimation to the Ministry.
