The situation of over a quarter of teas remaining unsold at Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions seen last few weeks continued at Sale No: 34 with nearly 27 per cent, worth ₹3.20 crore, of the 16.18 lakh kg on offer of remaining unabsorbed when average prices rose marginally to ₹65.91 a kg from previous week’s ₹65.42.
The Red Dust of Darmona Estate, auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing, topped the CTC market when Antony Tea Traders bought it for ₹205 a kg. The Red Dust of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, came a close second fetching ₹204. The Pekoe Dust grade of Darmona Estate (₹201), auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing, was the only other grade to enter the high-price bracket of ₹200.
Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings of Homedale, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the CTC leaf auction fetching ₹189. In all, 29 marks got ₹125 and more per kg.
Kodanad and Kairbetta topped orthodox market fetching ₹244 each. Havukal got ₹236 and Chamraj ₹224. In all, 34 marks got ₹125 and more per kg.
Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging ₹40-43 a kg for plain leaf grades and ₹100-115 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged ₹42-48 for plain dusts and ₹110-170 for brighter liquoring dusts.
