Some 31 per cent of the year’s largest offer of 17.32 lakh kg at Sale No: 18 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction remained unsold despite dropping prices by ₹2.12 a kg for want of bidders at high prices. Only Darmona Estate tea entered the high-price bracket of ₹200 a kg among CTC teas. Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, fetched ₹195.Karibetta topped orthodox teas from corporate sector fetching ₹239 . Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging ₹50-54 a kg for plain leaf grades and ₹100-150 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged ₹50-60 for plain dusts and ₹110-160 for brighter liquoring dusts. There was some purchase for Pakistan in range ₹53-70 a kg and for some European ports for ₹54-81.
