75% turmeric sold at Erode
Spot turmeric prices increased at Erode markets on the back of fresh upcountry orders. The buyers purchased 75 per cent of the arrivals. Krishnamurthy, a trader, said 5,000 bags of new turmeric including 500 bags of hybrid turmeric and 500 bags of old turmeric arrived for sale. The buyers purchased almost all the new and 80 per cent of the hybrid turmeric for their orders. The traders also bought medium quantity turmeric from Nizamabad for their local supply. The hybrid finger turmeric increased by ₹350 a quintal and the root variety by ₹50 due to quality. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the Salem Hybrid finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,569-8,909 a quintal; root variety ₹5,091-7,509. The local turmeric finger variety went for ₹5,394-8,189; root variety ₹4,899-7,349. Of the total arrival of 4,751 bags, 2,267 were sold.
