Almost 83 per cent of the offer at Sale No: 10 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association was sold despite the average price rising to ₹95.14 a kg from the previous week’s ₹94.38 due to reduced availability of tea in the market and the winter demand from upcountry markets continuing to prevail.
The Broken Orange Pekoe Fanning leaf grade of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the entire auction when Vora Sons bought it for ₹272 . This was the highest price fetched by any tea, CTC or orthodox, from any factory, bought-leaf or corporate.
Two other leaf grades of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹263 and ` ₹260. Darmona Estate’s Broken Orange Pekoe grade, auctioned by J Thomas and Co., got ₹231.
In the CTC Dust tea auction, Homedale Estate’s Red Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ` 265.
In the orthodox tea market, Nonsuch topped at ₹251. All others got less than ₹200.
