As much as 93 per cent of the offer at Sale No: 11 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association was sold with the average price falling to ₹94.08 a kg from the previous week’s ₹95.14 due to increased winter demand from upcountry markets. The Broken Orange Pekoe Fanning of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the entire auction when Shreeji Traders bought it for ₹262 a kg. This was the highest price fetched by any tea, CTC or orthodox, from any factory, bought-leaf or corporate.
Two other grades of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹256 and ₹250.
No other grade including the orthodox teas from corporates could fetch ₹200 this week.
In the orthodox tea market, Kairbetta topped at ₹198 followed by Kodanad ₹191. All others got less than ₹200.
