With the Planning Commission stipulating that Andhra Pradesh ensure a 10 per cent increase in production of foodgrains, the State Government has set a target of producing 122.85 lakh tonnes during kharif season this year.
In kharif 2010, the State achieved a foodgrain production of 99 lakh tonnes, exceeding the target of 95.25 lakh tonnes, according to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).
The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, discussed the kharif plan for 2011 at a high-level meeting on Thursday.
Cropping would be taken up in an area of 89.80 lakh hectares this kharif season as against the normal area of 77.87 lakh hectares. The Agriculture Department has drawn a plan to distribute 16.09 lakh quintals of crop seeds with a subsidy value of Rs 218.39 crore.
