The productive upper air cyclonic circulation over Assam and a building easterly wave in southeast Bay of Bengal continued to be the major weather features during the 24 hours ending Tuesday morning.

Heat wave conditions were conspicuous by their absence during this period when minimum temperatures fell by 2 to 3 deg Celsius over many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) update said on Tuesday evening.

Short-term forecast valid until Saturday said that scattered rain or thundershowers would occur over the Northeastern States.

Scattered rain or thundershowers has also been forecast over Andaman and Nicobar Islands until Wednesday evening, which may scale up thereafter.

Maximum and minimum temperatures could look up by 2 to 4 deg Celsius over west and central India.

This could sustain a while to trigger heat wave conditions once again over parts of south Rajasthan, Gujarat and Konkan from the weekend, the IMD added.

Minimum temperatures were below normal by 1 to 2 deg Celsius over the eastern parts of the country during the 24 hours ending Tuesday morning.

The lowest minimum temperature of 9 deg Celsius was recorded at Adampur in Punjab.

The 24 hours ending Tuesday morning saw scattered rain or thundershowers being recorded over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.

Global models had earlier ruled out the possibility of any “killer heat wave” building too soon although an early flare-up saw Mumbai recording the highest-ever maximum of 41.6 deg Celsius last week.
