North and northwest India were absolutely devoid of any significant weather until evening yesterday (Saturday), an India Meteorological Department (IMD) update said this (Sunday) morning.

Most of live weather was concentrated over east and east-central India as well as the southeast Bay of Bengal.

Fairly widespread rain or thundershowers occurred over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands while it was isolated in the Northeastern States.

Maximum temperatures continued to be below normal by 2 to 3 deg Celsius in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and southeast Rajasthan. They were near normal in the rest parts of the country.

Maximum day-time heating was concentrated over west Maharashtra with Ratnagiri recording the e highest maximum temperature of 39.6 deg Celsius yesterday.

Satellite imagery early this morning showed the presence of convective clouds over parts of east-central and southeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.

Strong westerly flows in the upper levels were seen tearing into the cloud formation and spreading them thin over an east-northeast direction.

The causative upper air cyclonic circulation over the central parts of south Bay of Bengal persisted from overnight on Sunday morning, the IMD said.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s upper air trough over east-central and southeast India had undergone some transformation.

The upper air cyclonic circulation over Assam and adjoining Arunachal Pradesh has shifted southwards to lie over Assam and neighbourhood.

The dynamics of the upper air trough have been tweaked to link this circulation, which lies extended to north coastal Andhra Pradesh through Orissa.

Short-term forecasts valid until Wednesday said that fairly widespread rain or thundershowers would continue to occur over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Scattered rain or thundershowers would occur over the Northeastern States, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal and Orissa.

It would be isolated over Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Extended outlook until Friday said that fairly widespread rain or thundershowers would continue over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Scattered rain or thundershowers would occur over parts of east India and isolated over northeast and south peninsular India.
