For the second consecutive week, the turnover at the Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions, which concluded on Friday, has traced a declining trend.
When the market reopened after Pooja holidays, there was a struggle to retain last week’s sale volume even after dropping prices by Rs 1.37 a kg on an average. The prices averaged Rs 83.32 against Rs 84.69 last week. This was the lowest price of the last 12 weeks.
Even with this drop, the volume sold was just 10.52 lakh kg against 10.51 lakh kg last week. This week, 83.32 per cent of the offer was sold against 84.69 per cent in the previous week. Consequently, the turnover dropped to Rs 8.77 crore from Rs 8.90 crore last week. This meant that the turnover fell by Rs 13 lakh or 1.46 per cent in one week.
