As part of the proposed Global Agribusiness and Food Processing Meet, the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) will conduct a stakeholders' consultation meet in Mangalore on May 31.
A press release by Mr G.G. Mohandas Prabhu, President of KCCI, said here on Friday that the Karnataka Government's Integrated Agribusiness Development Policy-2011 aims at sustainable development in the agricultural sector.
The objective of the policy is to bring down post-harvest losses and increase the revenue to the farmers and other stakeholders in the sector. The policy has emphasised on certain reforms in the areas such as investor-friendly policy and regulatory reforms, amendment to APMC Act and land for infrastructure and industries.
To boost investment in agriculture sector, the Government is planning to conduct Global Agribusiness and Food Processing Meet. The meet aims to establish agro and allied sector corridors, covering agri infrastructure and agro-based industries, it said.
The release said that this corridor compliments the abundant resources, skills sets, physical infrastructure and connectivity, thereby ensuring that the state becomes the most preferred destination for agribusiness.
The corridor includes three integrated Agri Business Investment Regions encompassing agri, horticulture, fisheries, dairy, animal husbandry and food processing sectors.
The policy ensures several checks and balances to protect the interest of farmers, fishermen, growers, rural community, and SME sectors. Before implementing the objectives of the policy and holding the meet, a series of stakeholders' consultations are planned.
One such consultation meeting will be conducted by the chamber of commerce in Mangalore on May 31, and Dr Vasanthkumar, Additional Secretary, Department of Food Processing, will make a presentation on the proposed global agri summit, the release added.
