Leaf prices firmed up at the Kochi Tea Auction while dust prices tended to ease. Arrivals have begun to dip both at the dust and leaf auctions which had 9,67,500 kg and 3,10,000 kg on offer respectively. High value CTC dust tended to ease while medium and plainer grades were barely steady to firm and sometimes dearer following quality. AVT continued to be active on good liquoring teas while Tata Global and Kerala loose tea traders lent useful support. Hindustan Unilever remained selective while exporters were cautious. Prices quoted lower at the orthodox dust auction which witnessed several withdrawals. Upcountry buyers were relatively active.

Tea Auction

High grown broken and whole leaf smaller broken grades remained firm to dearer following quality at the orthodox leaf auction. Prices of fannings eased. There were several withdrawals of fannings at the leaf auction. Medium bolder broken grades and whole leaves moved up in value. Secondary teas were irregular and often quoted lower. Exporters to CIS countries along with other traditional exporters remained active. Exporters to Tunisia remained subdued and operated within lower limits. HUL did not participate at the orthodox leaf auction. Good liquoring grades remained steady to firm at the CTC leaf auction, while other grades tended to ease. Bulk of the offerings was absorbed by upcountry buyers and exporters while AVT remained selective.

Top Prices

Pasuparai SRD and RD fetched the top price at the dust auction at Rs 129 followed by Pasuparai SFD and Injipara SRD at Rs 123. At the leaf auction Pascoe's green tea fetched the top price at Rs 283 followed by Chamraj FOP at Rs 219, Chamraj OP at Rs 210 and Havukal OP at Rs 201.
