A high-level inter-ministerial group will meet here on Wednesday to review radioactive technology use for preserving perishable food and agriculture commodities to prevent food wastage.

At the meeting, the blueprint of an integrated plan will be presented to the Ministers by Anil Kakodkar, former Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission; AK Sharma, Head, Food Technology Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, and AK Kohli, Chief Executive, Board of Radiation & Isotope Technology at BARC.

The meeting, initiated by the Rural Development Minister Nitin Gadkari, will review the use of radioactive technology on a national scale, as it is said to have benefited over 10,000 onion farmers in Maharashtra.

The meeting will also be attended by Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan; Minister of State in the Food Ministry Raosaheb Danve Patil; Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh; Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal; Minister of State (Independent charge), Development of North-Eastern Region VK Singh and Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and Agriculture Sanjeev Kumar Balyan.
